Maxi Tranq aka. Maximus Heaton took his very first ‘bird’ home with him the other day and after giving her a good ride this is how he rates her.

YOYOYOYOYO. So, swag, received my Mini Bird of Prey from Adam Baldwin (the owner of Skatement Speedboards) and this is a review of it and how fully awesome i think it is. Mmmk, dimensions, shit that matters, 34.5” long, 9.7” at the front and 9.4” wide at the back, could be horribly wrong with width but it feels like that. The deck is uber thin and has copious amounts of fiberglass smashed into it to keep it noice and stiff yeah.  The wheelbases are like 25” and 24.5” I’m fairly sure.

The deck has dope pheels, up the front is mad mellow 9mm drop which LOSES NO CONCAVE!!! Super sick that cups ya foot for them bulk pheels. As you move down the board, just after where your front foot is placed a subtle W starts to become apparent and then it gets steadily aggressive as you move down the board (concave toeys WADDUP). The board towards the back has fully sick wings which make for a great reference point so you don’t end up stepping on your back wheels, they also make for great places for leverage when smanging through them tight turns.

This deck will best perform at high speeds and through tight hairpin type situations, its freeride capability lacks because of the super gnarly concave. You will find that this board is a great for the experienced downhill rider but could also be a great entry board if you are looking at a short wheelbase board.

This deck being kinda on the thin side you should only be looking at 180mm trucks..maybe 184mm at the widest so I recommend setting it up with some cast ronins, PNL’s or some of the ronin billet kind. Paris are also a great, a cheaper alternative.

This deck and many others are available from Adam Baldwin, you can order through the facebook page called “Skatement Speedboards”. They usually go for around 210-220$. If you want a quality deck that will last for ages and will take you to new heights, this is the deck to have okay, get one, they’re great.

for some reason unbeknown to me last night i did not get even the smallest amount of shut eye. well maybe for a few minutes when i pretended that i was sleeping so i didn’t get in trouble when my mother came downstairs at 5:30 this morning, but that really doesn’t count.

i had nothing better to do so i decided to  go take a few photos of the sunrise from a hill the top of a local hill i love to skate. you see im normally just getting to sleep around the time the sun decides that it is time to start another day. i have missed watching this show and i’m all kinds of happy that i tuned in right in time.

do something.

this evening i looked back over photos/videos of my graduation and the weeks just after that. besides the fact that the the past phoebe was such a gumby (and always will be) i seemed to get rather frustrated with how little i have come since then. its been a year and a bit since a graduated and i am still careers-less and still have no directions of where i am going.

will i still be sleeping on the couch in my parents house in a years time???

i honestly hope not.

but that’s the thing, i have no clue where i am going but i certainly know where i don’t want to be.

hopefully // im not in the country // im not alone // im happy // im skating // im not confined to small thinking // the impossible happens // hopefully

twentythirteen

It is amazing how the simple act of taking down last years calendar and putting up a freshly opened brand spanking new one somehow gives you the chance to fix every mistake you made in the year prior and  it allows you to do the things you love twice as much in the year to come.

For any new adventure to be successful it must start on a new page and a new list of to do’s must be written. So here is my list of to do in twentythirteen:

SK8 – with the determination of a five year old, and be able to do a kickflip when a scooter rider yells “do a kickflip”!Image

D8 – not just boys, but meet new people and grow friendships started in 2012

Image

B3 CRE8TIV3 – write music, build things, think new thoughts

HAV FUN ERRYDAY  – collect things, laugh at things, try new things, yolo errythang, don’t think twice but think once intelligently, go to good concerts, don’t smoke, don’t drink n drive. luv evrry1 uncondisshhhognarly.

twentythirteen shall be the best twentythirteen i have ever had.

But while it is still 2012 here were some of the good things that happened during it.

Downhill for Daffodil

It truely is a sight to see when you have a group of people come together to participate in something they love doing but not just for themselves but for others.

Image

The event poster – thanks to all the sponsors!

On the 2nd of December 2012 a group of skaters came together to compete in a downhill competition at Noosa Hill Climb to raise money for a little grommet who is currently battling cancer. Over 75 riders had registered to compete in the days event, some of them masters of the hill who could do the 3km run through Noosa bushland with their eyes closed and some of them who had never even been down the track before. The way the day was run there would be three rounds of a round robin format where you would receive points for the place you came. Both groms and opens were racing together in these rounds which made these rounds far more interesting for both divisions, and also got most of the grommets stoked as they were racing against some of their heros. At the end of the round robin format eight riders from both the grom and open divisions would then move on to compete in the semi finals.

The semi final heats being called out.

The groms semi finals were two very tight racers seeing Brent Mason, Felix McCabe, George Warrner and Jaik Atcheson moving on to the final grom race. The final would be nothing but drama and adrenaline – boasting a Steven Bradbury like situation! George Warrener crashed out on the push line and ending up taking the rest of the heat down with him, so the race was on for who could be first back on their board and first across the finish line. But the drama continued through to the grom consi finals aswell! Throughout the whole run the position for 5th Grom was chopped and changed with the riders passing each other back and forth. Jacob Breede ending up making the best past and shooted out in front to take out 5th position. The fight for 6th and 7th continued all the way to the finish line where Jono Tate took 6th from Elliot Peet by 15cm, but once they had crossed the finish line they both locked eyes with each other and slowly move closer to each other, so close that they both ended up clipping wheels. Jono went skidding along the ground for 10 meters and in order for Elliot  not fall on top of Jono he jumped over him and landed awkwardly on his left ankle.

Lucky for us ‘Wingers’ was racing on the day, and he came skating to the rescue to help Elliot out before the ambulance arrived. Word is that Elliot has dislocated his ankle and broken both is fibula and tibia – but should be back walking in the next 6 weeks! All the best with your recovery Elliot and here is a picture so close your eyes if this kind of stuff scares you!

Before the crash.

After the crash.

The Grom podium results were as follows:

  1. Jaik Atcheson                                              5. Jacob Breede
  2. Felix McCabe                                               6. Jono Tate
  3. Brent Mason                                                7. Elliot Peet
  4. George Warrener                                         8. Gus Fraser

Now on to the opens finals, with 7 out of the top eight riders all winning every single one of their races in the rounds there was no doubt the semi finals were going to be tight and fast. After the two semi finals the top two riders from each race were the ones who would be going through to the final these riders were: Zach Hewett, Jake Eaton, Josh Evans and Matthew ‘Wingers’ Pascoe. When the riders arrived at the top of the hill they were greeted with the news that Elliot had broken his leg, so the wait began till the track could be cleared. Once they were given the all thunderbirds are go, the race began Zach Hewwet rumoured to be the master of the hill as it is his local was pipped across the line by Josh Evans, who won every single one of his races on the day – a well deserved winner! With Jake Eaton and Wingers following close behind Zach!

All in all the day was a huge success raising over $645 dollars for the local Brissy grommet  who is currently fighting cancer! As a community we hope that the funds raised from the day is going to help this guy out – all the best dude! One of the goals for the day was to see smiles all around – and from what i saw the only person who went home without a smile was probably Elliot Peet. Day = Success. The Downhill for Daffodil event proved that the skating community in brisbane isn’t a community that should be defaced by news reports, however we are a community that should be praised for out efforts in supporting those who need a helping hand. Brisbane has one of the best scene in all the world – so make sure you jump aboard the train.

Thanks to all those who came and raced, and a big thanks to those who helped run the day.

We would also like to give a big shout out to the sponsors of the day:

Special mention to Adam Baldwin from Skatement Speedboards, he played a major part in the day running smoothly he also donated the raddest trophy i have ever seen. act ten. memories of africa. the people

act ten is the story of when i went to uganda, it showcases the people we met, the places we went and the memories that we formed.

here are some of the people who have changed my life.

This guy is the man, he was our tour guide who kept us safe from harm, but he was more than that. Everything he does glorifies God. I remember waking up some mornings and having breakfast, and no matter what he would always work the conversation around to about how good God is. Another strong memory was when he did a devotion one night, everyone in the room was dead silent and no one left the room without being challenged and without goosebumps. This is a man who proved that living a life friends with God is not supposed to be boring.

This is Bryan Bob he is a little crazy munchkin. I think i played tiggy with him for like a total of 4 hours or something ridiculous. But what was most amazing was he ability to take 1500 photos in 10 minutes, i spent like 30 minutes deleting photo that night. I will always remember this boy and i can’t wait to go back and see him again. Oh and, when i returned to Australia i was going through all my stuff and i found a note that he and snuck into my camera back which said. I’m Bryan Bob and I love you.

This is Andrew, he is apart of an all boys foster home run by a Canadian couple. As soon as I met this kid he would not let go of my hand (unless he was playing football of course). He took me into his room, which he shared with three other boys he slept on the top bunk which he said was better – I could not believe how much they cherished what little they had. A group of us went down to the local football field, we were playing muzungu (white people) vs. machigas (black people). By this time Andrew was saying that I was his sister in Christ and that i would have to play on the Machiga team. We won. The next day when we saw the boys, Andrew gave me a number of necklaces – he told me that he had gone home that afternoon and made them just for his sister. Andrew had lived a hard life, something that i could not comprehend or even imagine. But to see him then, a boy who loves Jesus and loves life that is something that i will always remember.

why?

I have an obsession with good things. If something is not good then why should you be obsessed with it. I have an obsession with collecting good things. If it is good then why only have one. That may sound quite self-centred and even more materialistic – but it sure is fun. Im addicted to my collections of good things – it’s an obsession.
